The previous article introduced the basic summary of commonly used water purifiers at home and five-channel ultrafiltration/RO reverse osmosis water purifiers and some precautions for installation.
Under this introduction, the filter element replacement in the conventional standard 10 inch filter bottle, as well as the introduction and use of DIY filling filter bowl.
The filter element of each stage was introduced in the previous article, and this one will be repeated again
For example, the conventional RO machine is divided into 5-stage filter bottles, which can also be increased to 6 stages by itself.
The first three stages are primary filtration, mainly PP cotton, granular activated carbon, block activated carbon, resin, etc
Usually combined:
PP cotton + granular activated carbon + sintered activated carbon
PP cotton + resin + sintered activated carbon
It can even be shrunk into 2 channels, PP cotton + sintered activated carbon
The fourth stage is the main filter membrane, RO membrane of various specifications
The fifth stage is small T33, often granular activated carbon, the filter element is fine, and the taste is improved.
In this 5-stage filter element, the filter cup with granular activated carbon can be DIY filled by itself, and the filter cup with small T33 (other filter materials can also be filled inside, such as: Maifan stone, various mineralized balls, KDF, etc.)

Activated carbon for water purification sold in small quantities on Taobao is roughly divided into:
(1) Fruit shell activated carbon, 8-10 yuan/500g
(2) Coconut shell activated carbon, 12-20 yuan/500g
Coconut shell activated carbon is preferred, and the price can be divided according to different iodine values
High iodine value: >900/1000/1200, etc. (iodine value is a value indicating the adsorption capacity of activated carbon, the specific content is the quantitative amount of iodine adsorbed by activated carbon in standard iodine solution, generally used to indicate the adsorption capacity of activated carbon to small molecule impurities)
Based on the price of the 5th level, the rear small T33, the cheapest activated carbon small T33 on Taobao costs 10 yuan, and the coconut shell charcoal in Taiwan or Malaysia costs 30 yuan / stick (except for non-standard products, such as quick-connect type and the like can not be DIY), and the small T33 is actually loaded with 100-150 grams of activated carbon
The two ends of the small T33 use quick connection + union joint, which can rotate 360 degrees, and use the following 2 kinds of pipe fittings, which is convenient to use
“1044 2 points external teeth to 2 points” and “4011 2 points”
It will not be like when the water purifier leaves the factory, only “4044” pipe fittings are used, and it is necessary to fine-tune the angle of water inlet and outlet at both ends of small T33 after wrapping raw material belts
Operation method: 1044 wrapped raw material tape, screwed to the internal thread on both sides of small T33. The plug of 4011 is inserted into the quick joint of 1044 to achieve the role of rotating and adjusting the direction, and there is no need to play raw material tape when replacing it later, just need to pull out the blue card and pull out the pipe fittings.
The filling process of Maifan Shi Small T33 (activated carbon is the same, but it does not need to be boiled with water):
Choose 2 sizes of wheat rice for filling, and personally I feel that it is more convenient to use larger fillers (1-2 cm)
It can be seen that this filter bottle is a double O sealing ring, which can be sealed by hand screwing, and the round piece in the middle is a separator (plastic skeleton + food-grade non-woven fabric)
Maifan stone according to the product introduction: the first time to wash the boiling water for 10 minutes to go to the earthy smell and dry can soak in water.
Rinse 2 times, cook for 10 minutes, take out and rinse, and then fill into the filter bottle.
Activated carbon is directly filled, then connected to the water purifier, put water for 10 minutes +, and rinse the black carbon powder clean.
Like the finished small T33, it can be equipped with several more partitions, and the small T33 can be divided into 2 kinds of filter material / 3 kinds of filter material, such as activated carbon + maifan stone + mineralized ball. Play with room for tossing.
This small T33 filling filter element is 2 sealing rings, don’t lose one, it will leak (don’t ask me how I know…). ）
Next is the filling of the second level of 10-inch filter bottles, which uses about 300-400 grams of activated carbon, and the cost of self-filling is less than 10 yuan
The picture above is an old-fashioned empty filter bottle, this time with a new one, made in Taiwan
The operation method is the same, fill it in, put it into a filter bottle. Rinse for 10 minutes.
The newly released empty filter bottle, with a threaded + sealing ring, is easier and filled with about 400 grams of activated carbon
After filling, rinse with clean water, there will be a lot of bubbles and some black water, and the lid can be installed.
The 400G RO machine replaced this time, the old model, the hanging plate structure, except for the power supply/water pump/the first 3 stage filter bottles have not been replaced, the rest has basically been replaced. The number of uses is low, and the total amount of water produced is also small, so the life is longer.
Turn off the tap water inlet valve, unplug the power outlet, and unscrew the first three-stage filter bottle with the filter wrench
It can be seen that the PP cotton is not too dirty, but the filter element has not been changed for a year, and it has been completely changed.
New filter element, PP cotton + filled activated carbon + carbon rod
The carbon rod is not divided into front and back, with gaskets on both sides, and granular activated carbon only has a gasket at the top, because tap water flows from bottom to top.
The first three stages are installed, and the flushometer returns by itself after the third stage, and there is no black water (because the activated carbon has been flushed)
RO film —- small T33, change to this plug, more convenient
Originally double outlet (mineralized/non-mineralized), this time not fully mineralized, directly small T33 one (filled with 80 grams of Mengzong bamboo)
Turn on electricity, turn on water, make water for 5 minutes, check the TDS value
Then check each connection for water leakage, and check again after 1 hour
The quick joints in and out of the water sometimes leak slightly and need to be carefully inspected
The cost of replacing the filter element this time:
PP cotton: corrugated PP cotton, 125-127 grams / stick, 5 yuan
Granular carbon: imported from Taiwan 10 inch refillable filter cup screw cap design + carbon 400 grams, 15 + 10 = 25 yuan
Lumpy carbon: American KX filter element P10 model, 3000 gallon processing capacity, there is a called CTO model is 6000 gallons, 30 yuan
Taiwan imported T33 empty shell, filled with 80 grams of Mengzong bamboo charcoal particles (this is considered to be lumpy carbon, so the amount of filling is less, the work with granular charcoal should be 100 grams +), 15 yuan + 1 yuan = 16 yuan
A total of 86 yuan, about 1 year +, because the water consumption is really small.
The general advantages and disadvantages of RO reverse osmosis water purifier are repeatedly mentioned… There are a few things to be clear about
