CFDA: Infant formula milk powder avoids “gold” and other labels

Zhang Jing, director of the First Department of Food Supervision of the State Food and Drug Administration, said that at present, the phenomenon of misleading consumers such as exaggerated publicity of infant formula milk powder still exists.

When talking about the labeling of infant formula milk powder, Zhang Jing said that from the current label identification of infant formula milk powder, there are still exaggerated propaganda and other irregular problems, such as what functions of milk powder, this is nootropic, that is gold, “gold” and “silver” are not appropriate in names.

Zhang Jing said that label identification should provide consumers with an alternative and clear expression of meaning, and should not mislead consumers. In the next step, the State Food and Drug Administration is formulating labeling management measures, and at the same time will make a special regulation on the labeling of infant formula milk powder, and take measures to strictly supervise it.

In December last year, the General Office of the CFDA issued the Notice of the General Office of the CFDA on Carrying out the Labelling Specification and Supervision and Inspection of Infant Formula Milk Powder.

The Notice requires that in terms of the source of raw and auxiliary materials of infant formula milk powder, vague information such as “imported milk source”, “origin from foreign pastures” and “ecological pastures” shall not be used. In terms of content claims, substances that should not be contained in product formulations in accordance with food safety standards shall not be emphasized with words such as “zero addition” and “not contained”; In terms of functional claims, it is not allowed to express or imply functional expressions such as nootropics, increasing resistance or immunity, and protecting the intestines.
