According to media reports, the first of three new slab heating furnaces from Russian steelmaker Severstal was officially commissioned at its Cherepovets steel plant (CherMK), which is supplied by the international industrial engineering group Fives.
Named “Spark”, the furnace was a major breakthrough for Mill 2000 as the first heating furnace to come online, and the furnace accounted for 65% of the Cherepovets steel mill’s production.
Nikolay Savatin, head of the plant’s rolling production improvement department, said the furnace uses an on/off burner concept and is twice as productive as the Mill 2000’s existing furnace.
